Another Family Session – St. Louis Family Photographer

June 5th, 2010

We got a late start on this session as we were delayed by the high school graduation of the handsome Chaminade graduate on the right. Congrats, Chris! The extended family was in for his graduation and Memorial Day Weekend. The littlest ones were pretty much baked and overdone but I pulled out all my tricks and we got great images despite their moods and their pending bedtime. I think Matt & Chris have decided their future career paths will definitely not involve photographing small children – LOL!  Another lovely Kirkwood family.

Cone Pop – St. Louis Fine Art Photographer

June 2nd, 2010

Most of you probably aren’t aware of it but I also create a series of fine art prints called Popped Art.  Here’s one that I just ordered in canvas as a 40″x60″. Yes, 40″x60″ –  big, bold and beautiful. I have a whole series of these available for purchase in a variety of sizes and mediums. This one is going in my dining room. Pink in a dining room you ask? Yes, pink. My house is full of very bold colors. Enjoy! Blog

It doesn’t get any cuter than this – St. Louis Child Photographer

May 23rd, 2010

I had the pleasure of photographing these 3 girls last May and they returned for a mini session this year. They were even more fun this time. I love it when families return. I get to see the kids grow up and know that mom and dad love my work enough to return year after year. That is a huge compliment.  Hoping we can get mom and dad in the pictures next year — I think it will be time for a family portrait. And to top off a wonderful session Mom introduced me to a park I had never visited, Francis Park in St. Louis Hills. Luuuuuuv it! I know I’ll be returning there soon.Blog_ECAG

Happy 13th Wedding Anniversary – St. Louis Portrait Photographer

May 19th, 2010

Yes, another anniversary photo session. Maybe that’s the new trend. This lovely couple was so easy going and easy to work with. The evening was beautiful — late sun and perfect temps. You won’t believe me as they look so young, but they have 4 daughters. They left them with a babysitter and booked this session just for themselves. I think that was a brilliant idea. Parents rarely do such good things for themselves and their relationship. Kudos to you both.

BlogWhiteYou are going to want so many of these. I see an album in your future. I swear neither of you knows how to take a bad picture.

Catch Me If You Can! – St. Louis Baby Photographer

May 16th, 2010

Holy Cow do 18 month old boys move fast! Look at this adorable guy. Check out those curls and that chin dimple. As pretty as he is, he’s ALL boy. And he really didn’t care that mom wanted pictures. I mean, get real — sticks and digging in the mud are far more interesting than that lady with the camera! But I caught you despite your best efforts to evade me baby H. Can’t you just feel his exuberance and zest for life?

BlogtodayAnd did you notice the large stick in his hand? Well he found the biggest stick he could find and that was the only one he was willing to settle for. It was so big for him he lost his balance a few times. When we tried to switch it out for a more reasonably sized stick I got to hear his growl. Quite impressive I must say!

Happy 30th Wedding Anniversary – St. Louis Family Photographer

May 12th, 2010

I was contacted in January by Emileigh who, along with her 3 siblings, wanted to surprise Mom and Dad with a family portrait session for their 30th wedding anniversary. Isn’t that the coolest?! I figured they must have been wonderful parents if their kids wanted to do something like that for them. And I wasn’t wrong. They are a close, fun, lovely family. And gorgeous on top of it all. Mom and Dad did a terrific job. Happy anniversary Jane and Ed. I hope you have 30 more wonderful years together.

So Excited – O’Fallon Child Photographer

May 8th, 2010

I’m so excited to announce my display is up the the yummylicous Lindsay’s Chocolate Cafe & Coffee House in O’Fallon, MO. Owner, Amy Origiliasso, and the cafe’s namesake, Lindsay, and I set up a special lemonade party in a field of daffodils. Amy provided the delicious cupcakes (yes we gobbled them after the session), Lindsay provided the cute factor, and I created the art. A fun time and a big success. This is a 30″x40″ canvas and is the perfect size for over a fireplace.

blog202After we hung the portrait my helpers (Leland & Spence) and I had a delicious breakfast from Lindsay’s. Spence just about ate them out of business. He had a huge chicken salad sandwich. Yes, this was breakfast, but it’s what he wanted. I can’t blame him, their chicken salad sandwiches are amazing. Then he topped it off with a yummy brownie, which was about the size of Texas. Lindsay’s Chocolate Cafe definitely believes in hearty portions! And we even took a mini carrot cake for the road. As we were leaving Spence said, “We have got to come back to this place. They are awesome.” They are indeed.

Lindsay’s Chocolate Cafe & Coffee House is located at 1120 Technology Drive in O’Fallon, MO. It’s right at the intersection of Hwy K and Hwy 40/61. So stop by, see the portrait, have a special treat and then give me a call to create your special portait.

Personality Plus — Plus! – St. Louis Children’s Photographer

May 4th, 2010

Gorgeous weather. Gorgeous kids. What more could I ask? Really these kids are just adorable aren’t they? Look at those eyes. Look at that hair. Mom even dressed them perfectly.

And personality? Those twin 17 month old boys made me work for it. They knew they were in charge and made sure I knew it, too. You can just see the mischief in their eyes. LOL. Nancy and Todd you have your work cut out for you. I can only imagine what they are going to come up with in the next few years. And your gorgeous tween–wow. What a lovely, lovely girl; inside and out.

Tips for taking better pictures

April 27th, 2010

I’m often asked while on a session how I take such great pictures. No, it’s not the camera. After all, you could go out and buy really expensive, state-of-the-art pots & pans but they wouldn’t make you a chef. Right?

It’s how you use the tools you have. Using a point & shoot camera will give you good images when shooting in easy lighting conditions. But, honestly, it’s the tricky lighting that makes for the best images. But if all you have is a P&S or are terrified at the idea of turning your DSLR to manual then keep these pointers in mind when taking pictures.

1. Try not to shoot your subject with a bright light directly behind them. It confuses the camera and you’ll end up with a dark face and lovely background! But if you really want that sunset shot, use your flash. Yes, use your flash outside. It’s okay!
2. Get down on your child’s level. Shooting from their perspective really creates a great connection.
3. Watch your background. Nothing will ruin an otherwise great image faster than a cluttered background. Afterall, who wants a picture with some badly-dressed stranger scratching his belly in the background?                                                                                                                                                        4. Move in closer, but not too close. Remember what your image is about and fill your frame with just that. Which would you prefer, a closeup of your  daughter’s adorable icecream-covered face or a pull back shot where she’s just a small part of the picture, sitting in the hot sun on an ugly bench? Always remember to think about what’s in the frame before taking the picture.
5. For those group shots make everyone get close. Touching automatically makes a connection and often elicits genuine giggles and smiles.

I hope these few hints help you take better pictures as  you can’t always have a professional photographer around. Well, I guess you could but it would be expensive… and probably kind of annoying.

Have a great week and happy picture taking!

Christa – High School Senior Spokesmodel

April 19th, 2010

What a fun Saturday evening. Christa and her awesome mom, Pat, and I spent 3 hours creating Christa’s senior pictures at Des Peres Park. Christa is a lovely girl, inside and out. Oh, to be that young again and know what I know today!!

Christa is on the count down. Let’s see, I think 11 more days at Ursuline Academy and she’s off to college. This is one young lady who is going to go far. She has such a great attitude. She’s sweet, totally together, happy, funky, silly, serious, smart, creative, talented, graceful, and beautiful. And I feel priviledged that I got to create her senior portraits.

So here’s a sneak peek. More will follow. Enjoy Christa!!!Blog1
